Our client has long stood as a dynamic and influential presence in the contemporary art world, with a legacy of showcasing figurative painting, innovative fiber art, abstract painting, and sculpture by both emerging and established artists. They are seeking a detail-oriented, highly motivated Salesperson to support both the gallery’s artist representation and advisory services. This role is ideal for a candidate who is organized, intellectually curious, eager to sell, and contribute across client development, research, and major international fairs such as The Armory Show.
Key Responsibilities:
- Primary Market Support
- Promote gallery artists through tailored presentations and communications.
- Proactive sales and generation of sales leads
- Develop sales PDFs, biographies, and digital dossiers for collectors and institutions.
- Maintain records of available works, provenance, and media coverage.
- Secondary Market Research & Strategy
- Conduct research on blue-chip and post-war artists; support sourcing efforts for client requests.
- Use structured, AI-enhanced tools to analyze pricing, condition, and availability.
- Liaise with collectors, galleries, and auction houses; assist with pricing strategies and proposal creation.
- Art Fair Preparation (e.g., The Armory Show)
- Create and manage sales presentations for upcoming fairs.
- Research and write contextual material for exhibited works.
- Provide hands-on support during fairs, including logistics, client interactions, and follow-up.
- Administrative & Organizational Support
- Work closely with the Director and sales team to maintain strong workflow and communications.
- Help manage inventory systems, sales tracking, and consignment documentation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Arts Management, or related field preferred.
- 5 years of experience in an auction house, or advisory environment is a plus.
- Excellent research, writing, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe InDesign; familiarity with CRM/inventory tools a plus.
- Professional, dependable, and comfortable in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
- A strong interest in contemporary and post-war art is essential.
- Ideally some experience with the secondary art market and previous experience at art fairs
Salary: Hourly rate, DOE
Schedule: Part-time in the lead up to the fair, full time for the duration of Armory Show in New York (4th–7th of September), and potentially on an ad hoc basis after the fair
