Our client – an international, commercial art gallery, specialising in Old Masters and 20th century art – is
looking for a salesperson focusing primarily on post-war and contemporary art, to be based in their New
York space.

Responsibilities
The role will consist of working closely with the gallery’s two founder partners and a small but
dedicated international team to maximize sales and develop sales strategies across the company’s
wide range of activities, including but not limited to around ten exhibitions per year across four
galleries located in the US and Europe, participation in numerous prestigious international art fairs,
and a substantial online presence.
The role would suit a person looking for the increased responsibility, autonomy, and independence
that working in a dynamic business with galleries, colleagues, and contacts across two continents
would afford them.

The specific responsibilities will include:

General
• Oversee exhibition installation and de-installation
• Establish a solid client network from which sales are negotiated
• Develop expert knowledge on works of art handled by the gallery
• Provide front of house engagement with gallery visitors
• Interact and engage with other galleries / art institutions

Sales
• Set realistic yearly targets for sales and then meet or exceed them
• Advice on acquisitions
• Find works of art for consignment
• Notify clients of particular works and exhibitions according to their interests
• Reply to online enquiries

Artlogic
• Update client contacts with new information / interests
• Update any information seen to be incorrect or incomplete on the database, or notify

Qualifications

• The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years’ experience in sales at a commercial art
gallery or auction house
• Strong knowledge on twentieth-century art, strong academic credentials in the
relevant area
• Confident, target driven, and entrepreneurial sales professional
• Proven sales track record
• Applicant must have the USA citizenship or Right to Work in the USA

Contract: Full-time
Salary: Ideally $70k – $90k DOE, plus sales commissions and potential year-end bonus
