We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and skilled candidate to step into a new role as Director for an established contemporary art gallery in London. The gallery, which opened in 2005, seeks to amplify the representation of artists and activate the careers of an intergenerational cohort of practitioners who are interested in developing visual languages that challenge and reflect our world. They take a long-term view to representation and exhibit work to its best potential; whether within the gallery programme, guest projects or at renowned art fairs such as Basel and Frieze. As director, you will be a person with significant gallery experience who is able to complement the gallery founders and support their vision with a holistic approach. As a director you will be confident working independently, but also as part of a small close-knit team. You will work intuitively, responding to day to day tasks as well as developing projects and clients with a more long term view. As a director with experience you will already have developed your own network which will complement those already held by the gallery. The role will include international travel and require evening and weekend work when necessary for example at art fairs, and client and gallery events. You should be able to work to budgets and deadlines, be comfortable with public speaking and have excellent communication and writing skills. Multiple languages are a bonus. The desired applicant should have good knowledge of the gallery’s programme and ideas for how to amplify their projects. They would like to see ideas for market development and preferably previous experience of the markets of artists’ film and video.
