Our client is one of the most important commercial art galleries in the world. It is the only major gallery to specialize in works of art from antiquity through to the modern era, offering its clients expert advice and service, and an exciting programme of exhibitions and events. With 3 galleries globally, the gallery organises and presents exhibitions showcasing the finest Old Masters, Ancient and Modern works of art.
About The Role
The Gallery seeks a Communications and Events Manager to join its London team. The position is based in London. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2-3 years’ related experience in communications and digital content, ideally with a focus on Community Management and events experience. Preferably, candidates with good knowledge of the art market from old masters to modern and an existing black book of suppliers, media, and art world contacts.
Social Media Strategy and Community Management
- Construct, plan and execute social media campaigns across platforms including Instagram, linkedin, and youtube, to ensure multi-channel activation for a project
- Maintain the company’s brand image to a high standard across all channels, through the creation and posting in line with our historical, luxury brand and visual identity
- Create assets including short videos to support the gallery calendar of exhibitions, partnerships, corporate announcements, CSR initiatives, events and sales
- Work with our outsourced designer to create digital assets and designs for social media
- Use social media scheduling tools such as Preview to plan and post across our channels, ensuring content is consistently shared on a regular basis
- Community Management for our engaged and loyal social media community; interact with our followers, respond to messages, and follow and engage with relevant brands / individuals where appropriate
- Source and maintain relationships with videographers, photographers, VR companies and sound engineers for content production
Press, Partnerships and Media Relations
- Write press releases, media alerts, invitations, and other communication materials relating to the gallery, its exhibitions, product launches, and other announcements.
- A creative and informed approach to pitching targeted journalists with press releases, exhibition and artwork announcements, and other company initiatives
- Respond to varied media requests including interviews and image requests, as well as monitoring media coverage
- Oversee the press database, proactively gathering new press contacts
- Commission and clear images from photographers for communications use across digital platforms including the website, e-news and social media.
- Manage journalist briefings, set up press calls and interviews to support exhibitions, events, projects and dinners etc.
- Maintain communications calendar updated with deadlines of materials to be issued and ensuring communications deadlines are met.
- Share online articles across our social media channels
- Liaise with art fair press offices (e.g TEFAF) regularly to ensure inclusion for the Gallery in campaigns
- Manage the asset sharing and relationship with PR agency when required
- Seek and maintain partnerships with luxury and entertainment brands to promote the Gallery brand beyond the art world, e.g streaming companies and fashion brands
Digital Content
- Create dynamic digital content
- Plan and execute content strategies over the gallery’s platforms, including but not limited to the gallery website, social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter), e-newsletters and third-party partners (i.e. advertisers, distributors, Artnews, Artnet, etc.)
- Write, design and format press e-mail communications (mail outs, preview invitations, event invitations, general news announcements).
- Analyse the performance on content to report back on the success of a campaign
Display and Gallery Visuals
- Create posters, window vinyl and wall vinyl to advertise exhibitions and events, liaising closely with our printers and designer
- Manage the relationship with our Virtual Reality scanning company
- Book photography for each exhibition and share the assets, working closely with the photographer to direct shoots and highlight key artworks
- Source and maintain relationships with display and flower companies for ad hoc installation displays in the gallery window for specific projects
Events
- Monitor rsvps, maintaining a professional demeanour with all who respond
- Collaborate with the internal teams for event preparation (catering, materials, security, etc.)
- Book Event Photographers and Videographers where appropriate,
- Share assets with the team and across social media / with pr agency and journalists where appropriate post event
- Where appropriate, seek sponsorship for alcohol through business development and partnerships
- Organise, promote and execute events for the Foundation collaborating closely with the Head of Academic Projects and Global Director
The successful candidate will have the following attributes:
- Educated to degree level, preferably in arts or humanities subject (BA required).
- Experience in online community and social media management for a high-end brand
- Excellent digital, written and communication skills, as well as analytical, organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Interest and excellent knowledge of the visual arts with an awareness of current art world trends.
- Working knowledge of Canva, Photoshop and InDesign, Microsoft Office.
- A positive team player with a diverse and flexible approach
- Experience working with or in a PR agency is also desired
- Excellent black book of videographers, caterers, designers, sound engineers and photographers to ensure availability at busy periods in the art world

Hours: Full-time
Salary: Up to £35K, depending on experience
