Position Summary:

The Associate Director will work closely with the Gallery Founder to drive sales, expand the gallery’s client base, and oversee daily operations. This is a dynamic role that requires a strategic mindset, strong sales acumen, and excellent organizational skills. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the gallery’s future by securing sales, curating exhibitions, and ensuring the seamless running of the space.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop and execute a high-level sales strategy in collaboration with the Gallery Founder, consistently achieving or exceeding targets.
  • Leverage an existing strong client network to drive significant gallery sales and actively develop new collector relationships.
  • Proactively identify, engage, and convert potential buyers into long-term clients through strategic outreach and personalized client engagement.
  • Take ownership of sales outreach and revenue generation, with a primary focus on meeting and exceeding sales targets through client engagement and strategic networking.
  • Source and secure secondary market artworks for curated exhibitions, leveraging personal connections and industry contacts.
  • Develop and implement innovative sales strategies to enhance the gallery’s market presence and increase revenue.
  • Represent the gallery at art fairs and industry events, both domestically and internationally, with a focus on client engagement and sales generation.
  • Oversee daily gallery operations, ensuring smooth management of logistics, shipping, finance administration, and exhibition planning.
  • Manage artwork inventory and the client database using ArtLogic, ensuring efficiency in operations and client engagement.
  • Play an instrumental role in expanding the gallery’s artist roster by curating exhibitions that align with the gallery’s program.
  • Actively participate in developing the gallery’s program by networking with artists, attending graduate shows, and identifying emerging talent for future exhibitions.
  • Lead applications and secure positions for the gallery at prominent art fairs.

 

Requirements & Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in sales within the art industry, with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding targets.
  • Experience with gallery operations, including logistics, finance administration, and exhibition planning.
  • Established client network and the ability to cultivate long-term relationships with collectors, institutions, and industry professionals.
  • Strong understanding of the contemporary art market, including primary and secondary market sales.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to represent the gallery professionally.
  • Proficiency in ArtLogic or similar CRM/database management systems.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel for art fairs, exhibitions, and client meetings.
  • A proactive and self-motivated approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

 

Salary: £35-40k plus commission 10% of the profit

Schedule: Full-time; The gallery is closed on Mondays, so the team usually works from home but presence in meetings could be required. One Saturday required per month (11am – 4pm), and then you can take the following Monday off in lieu.
