We are on the hunt for a Senior Director to work with a Contemporary gallery in New York.

About:
Located on the Lower East Side, our client has established itself as a leading gallery representing international artists. Even with the ongoing pandemic they have successfully placed artworks with leading museums including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Gallery of Art, Smithsonian, Princeton and more. The gallery opened with an emphasis on new international talent. After a few years the gallery began representation of several leading late and mid-career artists. The gallery has previously attended some 8 – 10 art fairs per year including FRIEZE, The Armory Show, ZONA MACO, and more recently, India Art Fair. The gallery focuses mostly on Primary market but is looking to expand into Secondary Market.

The gallery now seeks a highly experienced person to join their small team as Senior Director. The role offers an incredible growth opportunity and is perfect for someone who is looking to take a sense of ownership in their work and eventually have their name on the door! You will have the chance to work closely and be mentored by the Founder.

Requirements:
•            At least 5 years of experience in contemporary art sales, with a proven track record
•            At least 5 years of experience attending major art fairs
•            Strong knowledge of art handling, shipping, and installation
•            Experience dealing with a variety of vendors
•            Broad knowledge of the current contemporary art market including auctions and secondary market
•            Strong and collegial relationships with staff, collectors, curators, museums, and other constituencies in the art world
•            Ambitious and self-directed working style
•            Clear communication
•            Good writing skills
•            Experience being the point person of the gallery and managing artists
•            Advocate for artists and long-term collegial relationships with artists
•            Strong track record managing other gallery personnel
•            Loves what they do and wishes to advance

Salary: DOE $100-200k + commission
Role is Full Time in the gallery
