Our client is looking for a Sales Associate to join their team in London. The successful candidates will have a proven sales track record, have an established network of clients, previous experience in international art fairs, and ideally come from a strong contemporary/blue-chip gallery and can sell £1-2 million annually.
Key duties and responsibilities:
Sales and Client Development:
- Expanding and nurturing relationships with existing collectors to increase the gallery’s sales and revenue.
- Creating and pursuing opportunities to bring in new collectors to the gallery pool to increase the gallery’s sales and revenue.
- Nurturing relationships to ensure consignments of high-quality secondary market works.
- Networking – attending openings and events, acting as an ambassador for the gallery to assist in expending the gallery profile, industry connections and outreach.
- Providing collectors with support and collection advice – delivering excellent client service while always having the gallery goals and interests in mind.
- Researching new markets, regions of opportunity for the gallery – proposing to senior management and Sales Team.
- Researching international art fairs – suggesting new potential art fairs that you believe would be beneficial to the gallery. Working with the Directors for sign off on fair participation.
- When assigned as lead, leading on exhibition curation or fair booth design and sales strategy.
- Working with Operations Team to ensure pre-sales and post-sales artworks are always delivered suitably and in time.
Sales Team:
- Working as part of the Sales Team, coordinating marketing and sales strategies to expend the gallery client base and sales
- Attending weekly Sales Meetings – providing input, feedback and sharing information to ensure clarity and understanding within the team.
- Ensuring coherent and collegiate collaboration with the rest of the Sales Team.
Artists Support:
- Introducing and promoting the artists which the gallery represents to expand their market and sales opportunities.
- Working with the Artists Liaison to support the artists with sales industry knowledge and input to assist the growth in the artists career and sales potential.
- Working with the Artist Liaison and Sales Team on strategy for exhibition program and artist sales outreach to make the gallery exhibitions profitable and successful.
- Supporting artist liaisons in their research to identify new potential artists with the view of expanding the gallery’s program – providing industry knowledge and feedback.
Requirements and Experience:
- 5 years minimum experience in commercial galleries or a related field within a Sales environment.
- Demonstrable experience in generating sales and revenue and reaching agreed targets, with a track record of Sales in excess of £1 million.
- Possess an active network of international clients and institutional contacts
- In depth understanding of the contemporary art market and gallery system
- Organised with the ability to prioritise and always be proactive and productive.
- Team player, but also able to work independently.
- Happy to travel to international art fairs and development trips several times a year.
- Fluent in English.
- Relevant Art History or related degree is preferable.
Salary: £60k+ base plus commission
Schedule: Full-time, ideally onsite
