Represented by international galleries in 6 countries, the Artist has exhibitions in various museums and institutions worldwide. The Studio Manager provides strong leadership, planning and organisational skills to support the studio. The Studio Manager is the direct point of contact and central link between the artist, the team and the various institutions and galleries the artist works with. This person should have a strong sense of responsibility, administrational ambition and agility befitting this unique working environment.

The position involves but is not limited to the following tasks:

  • Takes proactive, responsible, and at times independent action, serving as the pivotal figure within the studio and effectively representing both the artist and the team.
  • Possesses a proven track record in team management and excels at cultivating a collaborative work environment.
  • Provides crucial support and identifies opportunities to enhance studio operations and further the artist’s career.
  • Demonstrates adeptness in strategic planning, organization, and the ability to chart a course towards achieving the artist’s objectives.
  • Exhibits excellent written and verbal communication skills, adept at handling multiple correspondences both independently and in a collaborative capacity.
  • Oversees project timelines, scheduling, and adherence to deadlines, maintaining a comprehensive grasp of studio activities and taking appropriate action as needed.
  • Acts as a liaison with curators, galleries, commissioning bodies, and institutions, overseeing, coordinating, and facilitating upcoming projects.
  • Manages team of 9 and liaises closely with the artist’s personal assistant to align projects and meetings.
  • Manages day-to-day studio operations, including collaboration with the studio accountant for bookkeeping tasks and sales.
  • Negotiates commissions and contractual agreements with institutions, directors, legal representatives, and other stakeholders.
  • Pursues grant opportunities and explores new avenues for funding.
  • Ensures diligent curation and updates to the studio’s database (ArtLogic) by the Registrar.
  • Supervises all studio systems, encompassing shared hard drives, servers, and internet accounts.
  • Oversees the comprehensive studio operations, spanning both the office and workshop, and ensures a steady supply of art and office materials.
  • Exercises keen attention to detail and adeptly tracks and follows through on various projects demanding immediate attention.
  • Thrives under strict deadlines and maintains composure while working under pressure.
  • Demonstrates exceptional multitasking abilities and adeptly prioritizes tasks within a fast- paced environment.

About the candidate:

  • A minimum of five years of experience in the art field, preferably as a studio manager in an artist’s studio (experience in a gallery, institution, or a similar context useful).
  • Possesses a very good knowledge and understanding of the contemporary art landscape.
  • Proficiency in English is essential and also knowledge of German would be ideal, knowledge of French considered a plus.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both in written and oral forms.
  • Demonstrates a grasp of financial management principles and has experience in budget preparation.
  • Displays a solid comprehension of legal documents, contract familiarity within the art world, and related experience.
  • An acute attention to detail and a passion for problem-solving.
  • Exhibits a dynamic and flexible personality, adept at adapting to changing work environments, spontaneous travel, and maintaining a positive attitude in unconventional situations.
  • Holds a valid driver’s license.
  • Proficient in various computer software programs, including but not limited to InDesign, Photoshop, Word, and Excel.
  • Familiarity with art inventory systems, particularly ArtLogic, is advantageous.

Salary: CHF 84,000 to CHF 90,000 (flexible).
