Our client is a Contemporary New York Gallery with an international team working off site for their New York space. They have also recently launched a new space in France. They are seeking an Artist Liaison & Exhibitions Coordinator to work closely alongside the Director, manage the gallery’s expanding roster of artists, and develop gallery programming.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

    • Manage the gallery’s expanding roster of Contemporary artists and work closely with each of them to develop group and solo exhibitions in the United States and abroad – including shows in New York and Saint-Paul de Vence, France, and at art fairs like Untitled, ART Miami, 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair (London & New York), and Expo Chicago.
    • Work closely alongside the Director to set the gallery’s seasonal programming and research/review new artists.
    • Present new exhibition ideas to the Director.
    • Maintain positive working relationships with the artists/their studio teams and support them by learning and understanding their practices through frequent studio visits and meetings.
    • Gather and produce artist materials including biographies and CVs and collaborate with artists on personal statements.
    • Develop and produce special projects with artists which may include: artist catalogues, artist talks (virtual or in-person), studio photoshoots, video projects.
    • Development of special projects will require effective communication with freelance creatives such as graphic designers, photographers, videographers, editors, etc. and may involve liaising with curators.
    • Coordinate the gallery’s new Artist-in-Residence Program in Saint-Paul de Vence, France. Liaise with local French contacts, arrange international travel, living, and art production accommodations for the artists, maintain support and contact with artists for the duration of the residency. Plan local events, trips, and arrange for career networking opportunities.
      Assist the Director with museum exhibitions.
    • Maintain positive and professional relationships with curators and museum teams, facilitate connections between artists and curators, arrange museum loans, assist with shipping logistics.
    • Write exhibition texts/press releases.
    • Write and supply marketing team with website, marketing, and social copy for all gallery exhibitions, “Spotlights”, and art fair outreach.
    • Assist the Director and artists with the curating and design of exhibitions, in both New York and Saint-Paul de Vence, and art fair booths.
    • Work closely alongside shippers, contractors, and installers to direct exhibition installation and de-installation. Maintain positive relationships and clear communication with vendors/contacts related to: framing, art conservation, canvas stretching, sign production, installation, construction, shipping, and documentation in both New York and Saint-Paul de Vence.
    • Liaise with shippers/installers to manage pickups and deliveries to and from gallery, gallery’s warehouse storage, museums, and collector’s residencies. Assist shippers/installers with packaging work safely and properly, maintain organization of the gallery’s changing roster as works move in and out of the gallery.
    • Plan and manage logistics of gallery openings.
    • Act as a liaison between the artists and press to schedule interviews and press features. Create press kits, prep artists for interviews, maintain positive relationships with editors and journalists.
    • Work closely alongside the Sales team to write/gather additional information and text about works, aid the Sales team with creation of Sales packages/presentations for collectors. Brief Sales team on details and background of the works based on studio visits with artists.
    • Meet with clients, speak knowledgeably about the artists, work, and exhibitions. Assist on sales when needed.
    • Attend art fairs to assist the Director/Sales team. Work alongside the Director/Sales team in art fair booths.

Skills & Experience Required

      • 2+ years’ experience as an artist liaison or related position
      • Strong background and knowledge of art and multiple art mediums
      • .Exceptional communication skills – both written and verbal
      • .Excellent research skills.
      • Previous experience interfacing with clients, press, and artists.
      • Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
      • Passion for Contemporary Art
      • Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team
